Flexographic Printing
The right answer when run length, unit cost, and substrate consistency matter more than turnaround speed
What it's for
Flexographic is the workhorse of label printing. For runs over fifty thousand units, no other process matches it on per-unit cost, color consistency, and the ability to print on a wide range of pressure-sensitive substrates with in-line die-cutting, lamination, and varnish. We use flexo for pharmaceutical labeling, food and beverage, household and personal care, industrial drum and chemical labels, and any high-volume pressure-sensitive application where the same SKU runs every quarter.
The trade-off: setup is plate-based, so flexo isn't economical under five thousand units, and proofing turnaround is longer than digital. We tell you when flexo is the wrong choice for your job.
What it survives
Pharmaceutical and chemical labels regularly need solvent and abrasion resistance, BS 5609 marine-immersion compliance for hazardous shipping, or freezer-grade adhesives for cold-chain applications. We specify substrate, ink, varnish, and adhesive systems together — not in isolation — so the finished label survives the actual environment, not just the artwork review.
Typical applications
Pharmaceutical primary and secondary labels (FDA-compliant materials)
Food and beverage container labels
BS 5609-compliant chemical and IBC labels
Cold-chain and freezer-grade pressure-sensitive
Industrial drum and barrel labels
Personal care and household product labels
